Urroz (official name: Urroz-Villa; Basque: Urrotz) is a small town in northern Spain. It is located in the region of Navarre. Urroz is a municipality, which means it has its own local government.

The town has a small cemetery and a "pelota" court. Pelota is a traditional sport similar to squash. There is also a church and a few small bars. These are found around a central plaza or town square.

Urroz: A Historic Crossroads

Urroz was once a very important place. It was a crossroads where major roads met. One road went from north to south, connecting Erro to Campanas. Another road went from east to west, linking Pamplona to Aoiz and Lumbier.

A Busy Market Town

Because of its location, Urroz was a busy market town. Many people from the surrounding areas came here to trade. The town also held a special event each year. A cattle fair took place annually on November 13-14. This was on Saint Martin's Day.

Language and Laws in Urroz

Urroz has a town square at its center. The laws about language in Navarre have changed over time.

Language Zone Changes

Initially, Urroz was in the non-Basque-speaking zone. This was decided by a law called Foral Law 18/1986. However, things changed later. In June 2017, the Navarre Parliament approved a new law. This law, Foral Law 9/2017, moved Urroz-Villa into the Mixed Zone of Navarre. This means both Spanish and Basque languages are recognized there.
