Us Mob facts for kids
Us Mob was an early Aboriginal reggae rock band from South Australia. The band started with help from the Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music (CASM) in Adelaide.
Us Mob's Journey
Us Mob appeared in the film Wrong Side of the Road alongside another band from CASM, No Fixed Address. Recording the music for this film was a big deal. It made Us Mob and No Fixed Address the first modern Aboriginal bands to have their music officially recorded.
In 1981, both bands were nominated for an AFI Award. This award was for Best Original Music, recognizing their work on the film's soundtrack. Later, Us Mob moved to Sydney. Sadly, the band broke up after their music equipment was destroyed in a fire. Years later, in February 2000, the ABC made a documentary about the band called "Message Stick."
