Usher is a suburb located in the southern part of Bunbury. Bunbury is a city in Western Australia. Usher is part of the City of Bunbury local government area. This means it is managed by the local council.
The suburb is found between the Indian Ocean coast and the Bussell Highway. It is the most southern suburb that is continuously built-up in Bunbury. Usher was named after Patrick Usher. He was the mayor (or leader) of Bunbury from 1972 to 1983.
Who Lives in Usher?
In 2016, a survey called the 2016 census showed that 2,168 people lived in Usher. This number was a little lower than in 2006.
The survey also found that the average age of people in Usher was 36 years old. The average weekly income for people aged 15 and over was $586. Most people living in Usher were born in Australia (76.1%). Some were born in England (5.7%) or New Zealand (2.4%). About 5.7% of residents identified as Indigenous Australians.
When it came to religion in 2016, most people said they had no religion. Other popular religions were Anglican and Roman Catholic. For adults aged 15 and over, 42.8% were married. About 43.0% were single.
Parks and Green Spaces
Usher has two large areas of open space. These are places for nature and recreation. The southern part has a special forest with tuart trees. This area is called the Usher-Dalyellup Regional Park. It was given this name in 2003.
There is a walking path called the Tuart Walk in the park. It helps people learn about the forest. The path leads to Maidment Parade in the nearby suburb of Dalyellup. It was opened on October 8, 2006. Another green area is in the western part of Usher. It stretches south from Maidens Hill Reserve.
Schools and Learning
Usher does not have any schools inside its own borders. However, schools in the nearby suburb of Withers serve Usher's students. These include Maidens Park Primary School and St Joseph's, a Catholic primary school.
For older students, Usher is in the area for Newton Moore Senior High School. Also, the Bunbury campus of Edith Cowan University is only about 2.5 kilometres (1.6 miles) away. This makes it easy for students to go to university.
Getting Around Usher
Usher is connected to Bunbury's main bus station by bus routes 301 and 302. These buses are run by TransBunbury for the Public Transport Authority.
The bus journey from the city centre to Usher takes about 12 to 22 minutes. The buses stop at the corner of Mosedale Avenue and Nalbarra Drive.
