Üsküdar University is a university located in Üsküdar, Istanbul, Turkey. It is special because it was the first university in Turkey to focus on Behavioral Health and Sciences. This means it studies how people think, feel, and act. The university was started by the Human Values and Mental Health Foundation.

How Üsküdar University Started

The story of Üsküdar University began with a group called NP Group. On May 25, 1999, they opened the Turkish branch of Memory Centers of America in Istanbul. The President of Turkey, Süleyman Demirel, was there for the opening.

Memory Centers were pioneers in Turkey. They were the first to offer "Brain check-ups" and "Magnetic Stimulation Treatment (TMS)". They continued to bring new and effective ways to treat mental health issues with their expert team.

Memory Center believed in using science to understand and treat brain problems. A year later, on October 3, 2000, they opened a special unit for children and teenagers. The President of "Memory Center of America," Wenon Wells, attended this opening.

In February 2003, NP GROUP opened a five-story center for adult brain and mental health in Feneryolu. They also set aside a separate building for younger children and teens.

Since November 2006, NP GROUP has been using advanced imaging techniques. These techniques help them see how the brain works. Then, on March 20, 2007, they opened the first and only Neuropsychiatry Hospital in Turkey. This hospital helped people who needed to stay overnight for treatment. The President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Bülent Arınç, was there for the opening.

In June 2009, NP GROUP started the first lab in Turkey to study how genes affect how people react to medicines for brain conditions. On August 10, 2009, they also opened a clinic in Etiler for children, teens, and adults needing mental health support.

Finally, Üsküdar University was officially founded on March 3, 2011.
