Usulután is a big city in El Salvador. It is the fifth largest city in the country. Usulután is also the capital of the Usulután Department. This department is located in the southeast part of El Salvador.
In 2006, about 71,636 people lived in Usulután. The city is in a valley where many crops grow. It is often very hot and humid because it is close to the Pacific Ocean. Usulután faced challenges from natural disasters. The city was damaged by earthquakes in February 2001. It also experienced damage from Hurricane Mitch in 1998.
The main Catholic Church in Usulután is in a park. The Town Hall, called "Alcaldia," is also nearby. Next to them is the Cine Centenario, a movie theater. These places are in the center of the city. Recently, Usulután has become more modern. You can now find popular restaurants there. These include places like Pollo Campero, which serves chicken. There is also Biggest, a hamburger restaurant. More eating places are now available in the city.
Sports in Usulután
Usulután is home to a very successful soccer team. This team is called C.D. Luis Ángel Firpo. They play their games at Sergio Torres Stadium. This stadium is special because the soccer club owns it completely. It is the only stadium in El Salvador owned by a club. The team's colors are white, red, and blue. They play in the top soccer league in El Salvador. This league is called the Primera División.
