Utut Adianto Wahyuwidayat (born March 16, 1965), known as Utut Adianto, is a famous Indonesian politician and a brilliant chess player. He has been a member of the People's Representative Council (DPR) since 2009. The DPR is like Indonesia's main parliament, where laws are made.
He is part of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle. From 2018 to 2019, he served as the Deputy Speaker of the DPR. Before becoming a politician, he was a top chess player. He earned the special title of Grandmaster from FIDE in 1986.

Early Life and Education
Utut Adianto Wahyuwidayat was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, on March 16, 1965. He is the fourth of five children in his family. Utut grew up in a place called Damai alley, near Cipete Market in South Jakarta.
He went to Padjadjaran University for his studies. He finished his university education in 1989. After graduating, he started working for a company that focused on development projects.
Chess Career Highlights
Utut first became interested in chess because of his brother. In 1973, when he was just 8 years old, he started taking chess lessons. He joined the Kencana Chess Club to learn more about the game.
- In 1978, at age 12, he won the Jakarta Junior Championship.
- The next year, in 1979, he became the National Junior Champion.
- He then won the Indonesian Chess Championship in 1982.
- In 1986, he was given the title of Grandmaster. He was the youngest Indonesian to achieve this at 21 years old. This record was later broken by Susanto Megaranto.
- Between 1995 and 1999, his Elo rating was consistently above 2600. This rating shows how strong a chess player is.
In 1999, Utut took part in the FIDE World Championship in Las Vegas. This competition used a knockout style, meaning if you lost, you were out. He lost in the first round to Daniel Fridman.
Utut Adianto is the chairman of the Indonesian Chess Federation (PERCASI). He also helped start a chess school in Indonesia. This school has helped train many national chess players. In 2005, FIDE gave him the title of Senior Trainer.

Political Career
In recent years, Utut Adianto has spent less time on chess. He has become very active in politics and government work. On May 9, 2009, he was elected to the People's Representative Council (DPR). This is the lower house of Indonesia's two-part parliament.
He became the Deputy Speaker of the DPR on March 20, 2018. He was reelected in 2024, receiving 116,794 votes from the people.
