South Jakarta (which is Jakarta Selatan in Indonesian) is one of the five special administrative areas that make up Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. Think of it like a big part of a larger city. It's not a completely separate city with its own government, but it's an important section of Jakarta.
In 2010, about 2,057,080 people lived in South Jakarta. This makes it the third most populated administrative area in Jakarta, after East Jakarta and West Jakarta. The main office for South Jakarta is in a place called Kebayoran Baru.
South Jakarta shares its borders with other parts of the region. To the north, it's next to Central Jakarta. To the east, you'll find East Jakarta. If you go south, you'll reach Depok. To the northwest, it borders West Jakarta, and to the west, it's next to Tangerang.
