Uvas Reservoir is a man-made lake located in California, west of a town called San Martin. It's surrounded by a large park, about 626 acres, which is managed by the Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department.

At the park, you can go fishing, but you have to let the fish go back into the water! You can also have picnics and hike on the trails. Boats are not allowed on the lake.

What Is Uvas Reservoir Like?

Uvas Reservoir sits on top of a special type of ground called the Franciscan Formation. This means you can find many different kinds of rocks there. Some of these rocks include slate, basalt, and marble.

How Was Uvas Reservoir Created?

Uvas Reservoir was built in 1957. It was made by building a dam, called the Uvas Dam, across a stream named Uvas Creek. This dam is located in the southern part of the Uvas Valley.

The reservoir is one of the biggest lakes owned by the Santa Clara Valley Water District. This district helps manage water for the area.

In 2013, a family called the Scoffone family sold a large piece of land next to the park. This land, about 357 acres, was bought by the Peninsula Open Space Trust. This sale actually doubled the size of the park around Uvas Reservoir!
