A Look at History
Early Beginnings
The first time Větrný Jeníkov was mentioned in writing was in 1226. This means it has a very long history! In 1346, the village became a "market town." A market town is a special type of settlement that was allowed to hold markets.
Changing Owners
For many years, from 1436 to the 1570s, a powerful family called the Trčka of Lípa owned Jeníkov. The town got its full name, Větrný Jeníkov, in 1572. The Trčka family owned it again for a short time between 1619 and 1635. However, they lost their properties after a big battle called the Battle of White Mountain.
Around 1660, another family, the Trauttmansdorffs, took over Větrný Jeníkov. Later, from 1719 to 1744, a knight named Jan of Minetti owned the estate. During his time, the town grew and became more successful. Many guilds (groups of skilled workers) developed, and important buildings were constructed. After Minetti passed away, a charity group in Prague inherited the estate in 1744.
The Village of Velešov
The village of Velešov was first established around the year 1300. Sadly, it was completely destroyed in 1421 during the Hussite Wars. A new settlement, also called Velešov, was founded near Větrný Jeníkov in 1730.
