V. Muthiah Panchalingam (born around 1934 – died May 1, 1989) was an important government official in Sri Lanka. He worked hard to serve the public in various roles. Sadly, he passed away in 1989.

Early Life and Education

V. M. Panchalingam was born around 1934. His father, Muthiah, was a businessman from Kandy, a city in central Sri Lanka. At that time, Sri Lanka was known as British Ceylon because it was under British rule.

Panchalingam went to two well-known schools: Jaffna Hindu College and Ananda College. After finishing school, he continued his studies at the University of Ceylon. He earned an excellent degree in chemistry, which is a branch of science.

A Career in Public Service

After university, Panchalingam started his career as a research officer. He worked at the Rubber Research Institute, studying rubber. In 1957, he joined the Ceylon Civil Service. This meant he became a government employee, working to help manage the country.

He started as a District Land Officer. This job involved managing land in different areas. He worked in places like Mannar, Kandy, and Vavuniya. Later, he became an Assistant Government Agent and then an Additional Government Agent in Jaffna. These roles were very important for local government.

In 1984, Panchalingam became the District Secretary for the Jaffna District. This was a very senior position. As District Secretary, he was in charge of the main government office in the Jaffna area, overseeing many important tasks for the people living there.

His Passing

V. M. Panchalingam passed away on May 1, 1989. He was at his brother's house in Nallur, Sri Lanka, when this sad event occurred.
