VIP my Brother Superman (also known as The SuperVips in English) is an animated film from Italy. It was made in 1968 by director Bruno Bozzetto. This movie is a funny take on superhero stories. It was very popular and got good reviews when it came out. Later, in 2008, a TV show called PsicoVip was made, which was a spin-off from the film.

What the Story is About

This animated movie tells the adventures of the very last members of a special family of superheroes, called the Vips. The film makes fun of how things like advertising, politics, and our buying habits work. It shows how these things can sometimes be silly or over-the-top.

There are two main heroes in the story. One is SuperVip. He looks exactly like a superhero should: strong, handsome, and full of amazing powers. He's the kind of hero you'd expect to see flying through the sky.

Then there's MiniVip, SuperVip's brother. MiniVip is quite different! He's not very tall, wears glasses, and has a bit of a tummy. His powers are also a bit less grand. He can only fly using two small wings, and at night, he glows a little, like a firefly.

But both brothers are needed when a powerful lady named Happy Betty shows up. She's a rich businesswoman who wants to take over the world! The big question is, can MiniVip overcome his own shyness and doubts to help save the day? He needs to believe in himself to stop Happy Betty.

Meet the Main Characters

Here are some of the voices behind the characters in the film:

  • Oreste Lionello as Mini VIP
  • Fiorella Betti as Lisa
  • Micaela Esdra as Nervustrella
  • Corrado Gaipa as the Colonel
  • Pino Locchi as Schultz
  • Lydia Simoneschi as Happy Betty

How the Film Was Made

VIP, My Brother Superman was the second full-length animated movie made by director Bruno Bozzetto. His first was a Western comedy called West and Soda.

During the making of the film, some people who were helping to pay for it from America had concerns. They were worried about how some of the characters were shown in the movie.

When the Film Came Out

My Brother Superman was first shown in Italy in 1968. In the United Kingdom and some other countries where English is spoken, the movie is known as The SuperVips.

The film has been released on DVD. One version was put out by DigiView Entertainment. Later, a better, restored version of the film was released on October 7, 2014. This newer DVD had much better picture quality. It also included extra content, like a 45-minute interview with Bruno Bozzetto, which is the director, and original pictures used to plan the movie.
