Vašo Patejdl (born Václav Patejdl) was a famous Slovak musician and composer. He was born on October 10, 1954, and passed away on August 19, 2023, at 68 years old. Vašo was a key member of the popular pop-rock band Elán. He also wrote many songs for other singers and created music for movies, like Fontána pre Zuzanu and The Seven Ravens. Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Václav Patejdl was born in Karlovy Vary. His father was Czech, and his mother was Slovak. When he was a child, his family moved to Bratislava.
He studied music composition at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. His teacher was a famous composer named Alexander Moyzes.
Music Career
Vašo Patejdl had a long and successful career in music. He was known for his work with the band Elán and for his solo projects. He also composed music for many other artists and films.
Joining the Band Elán
Patejdl helped start the band Elán in 1968. He played a big part in their first four albums. In 1984, he left the band to work on his own music.
Even though he left, he stayed friends with the band members. He often worked with them on new songs. In 1996, he rejoined Elán and stayed with them until he passed away. His last show with Elán was in 2018. They toured in Czechia and Slovakia.
Vašo Patejdl, along with Jozef Ráž and Ján Baláž, were the main members of Elán. They were together for 55 years.
Vašo's Solo Music
Vašo Patejdl recorded nine solo albums during his career. Some were in Slovak, and some were in English. Besides pop music, he also made music for children.
He won awards at the Bratislavská lýra song contest. He got second place in 1985 and first place in 1987.
Patejdl also started his own recording studio called Relax in Bratislava. He used it to record his own music. He also let other musicians use his studio. His last concert was in July 2023, about a month before he passed away.
Composing for Others
Patejdl wrote songs for many pop singers. These included Beáta Dubasová, Marika Gombitová, and Heidi Janků. He wrote the popular song "Po schodoch." The band Banket first performed it. Later, their lead singer, Richard Müller, sang it solo.
Music for Movies
Vašo Patejdl also composed music for films. He created the music for the 1985 movie Fontána pre Zuzanu. He also worked on its two sequels.
He also composed music for the award-winning 2015 fairy tale film The Seven Ravens. For this film, he was nominated for Best Music at the Czech Lion Awards. He also won Best Background Music at the Indian Cine Film Festival.
