Charles Valentine "Val" Holten (born September 15, 1927 – died January 14, 2015) was an Australian cricket player. He played five important matches for the Victoria team. These matches took place between 1950 and 1953. Val was born in Brighton, a suburb of Melbourne.
Holten was a right-handed batsman. He also bowled with his right arm, using a medium pace style. His bowling often included "inswingers," which are balls that curve towards the batsman. People thought he was "one of the State's most useful cricketers."

Val Holten's Cricket Journey
Val Holten went to Hailebury College and Melbourne Grammar. He started playing District cricket in 1947. His first team was the Melbourne Cricket Club.
Playing for Different Clubs
After two seasons with Melbourne, Val moved to the Prahran Cricket Club. He played there for eight more seasons. In his first year with Prahran, he had the best batting average in District cricket. Five seasons later, he scored the most runs overall.
Later, Holten joined the Malvern club in the Sub-District league. After five seasons, he had a disagreement about coaching fees. This led him to move to Oakleigh, another sub-district team.
Awards and Recognition
Val Holten was very successful in sub-district cricket. In 2007, he became one of the first members of the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association (VSDCA) Hall of Fame. In 2014, he was honored as a "Legend of the VSDCA."
Val Holten's Family Life
Val Holten married Dorothy Porter in 1952. He passed away in Melbourne in 2015. He was 87 years old.
