Valerie Wellington (born November 14, 1959 – died January 2, 1993) was an American singer. She had a short but amazing career. Valerie started by singing opera, which is a type of play where most of the words are sung. Later, she became famous for singing Chicago blues and electric blues. Blues music is a style that often expresses feelings like sadness or joy.
In 1984, Valerie released her album called Million Dollar Secret. On this album, she worked with other talented musicians like Sunnyland Slim, Billy Branch, and Magic Slim. She also performed with Lee "Shot" Williams.

Valerie Wellington's Life
Valerie Eileen Hall was born in Chicago, Illinois. She trained to be an opera singer. She even graduated from the American Conservatory of Music.
But in 1982, Valerie decided to try something new. She started singing blues music in clubs around Chicago. Her opera training helped her a lot. It taught her how to make her voice strong and clear. This was great for singing in theaters.
Valerie as an Actress
Valerie also worked in theater. She played roles where she acted as famous blues singers from the past. These included Ma Rainey and Bessie Smith.
In 1984, Valerie performed at the San Francisco Blues Festival. She shared the stage with other great musicians like Marcia Ball and Katie Webster.
Her Music Style
Valerie Wellington's recorded music was a mix of old and new. She combined a traditional vaudeville style with modern Chicago blues. Vaudeville was a popular type of entertainment with different acts like singing and comedy.

Valerie Wellington passed away in Maywood, Illinois, in January 1993. She was only 33 years old. She died from a cerebral aneurysm, which is a problem with a blood vessel in the brain. She was buried at the Restvale Cemetery in Alsip, Illinois.
Her album Million Dollar Secret was released again by Rooster Blues in 1995.
