Valeriu Muravschi (born July 31, 1949 – died April 8, 2020) was an important politician and businessman from Moldova. He was the very first Prime Minister of Moldova, serving from May 28, 1991, to July 1, 1992.

Early Life and Education
Valeriu Muravschi was born in a place called Sirota, in the Orhei District of Moldova, on July 31, 1949. He went to college at the Technical University of Moldova in Chișinău. There, he studied economics and graduated from the Faculty of Economics.
Starting His Career
After finishing college, Muravschi worked in different economic jobs for the government of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic. From 1971 to 1976, he was a senior economist. Later, he became the head of the Pricing Section for building materials. He also led the Department of Finance and was a director in other government offices until 1990.
In 1990, he joined the government led by Mircea Druc. Muravschi served as a Deputy prime minister and also as the Minister of Finance until 1991.
Becoming Prime Minister
In 1991, Valeriu Muravschi was chosen to be the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova. This was a very important role, as he was the first person to hold this position for the newly independent Moldova.
Challenges During His Time as Prime Minister
His time as Prime Minister was mainly focused on the Transnistria War. This was a difficult conflict that Moldova faced during its early years of independence.
After Being Prime Minister
After his time as Prime Minister, Muravschi continued to be involved in politics. In 1999, he started a political party called the National Christian Democratic Peasants Party of Moldova (PNCD). He was the president of this party until 2002. Later, this party joined with other parties.
Awards and Recognition
On July 31, 1999, Valeriu Muravschi received a special award called the Order of Work Merit. He was given this award for his "long and fruitful activity in the state." It recognized his hard work and contributions to Moldova's economic development.
His Passing
Valeriu Muravschi became ill with cancer. In March 2020, he was taken to a hospital in Chișinău. He had surgery, but his health got worse, and he fell into a coma. He passed away on April 8, 2020, a few months before his 71st birthday.
