Valery Konstantinovich Belousov (Russian: Валерий Константинович Белоусов; December 17, 1948 – April 16, 2015) was a famous Russian ice hockey player and coach. He was known for his amazing skills on the ice. Later, he became a very successful coach, leading many teams to victory.

Valery Belousov: A Hockey Legend

Valery Belousov was a key figure in Russian ice hockey for many years. He played as a right wing, scoring many goals. After his playing days, he became a highly respected coach. He helped several teams win major championships.

His Time as a Player

Valery Belousov started playing hockey in 1964 for a local team called Kedr in Novouralsk. In 1967, he moved to Sputnik Nizhny Tagil. He then joined Traktor Chelyabinsk in 1971. This was a top hockey team in the Ural region.

During his time with Traktor Chelyabinsk, Belousov played 418 games. He helped his team reach the 1973 USSR Cup finals. In 1977, his team won a bronze medal. He was one of the best goal scorers in the Soviet Championship.

From 1982 to 1984, he played for Oji Seishi Tomakomai in Japan. He helped them win the Japanese championship twice. Belousov finished his playing career with Metallurg Magnitogorsk. He retired as a player in 1987.

His Time as a Coach

After retiring as a player, Belousov returned to Chelyabinsk in 1987. He started as an assistant coach. In 1990, he became the head coach for Traktor Chelyabinsk. He led the team to its first bronze medals since the late 1970s.

In 1995, he moved to Magnitogorsk to coach Metallurg Magnitogorsk. He became the head coach in 1996. Under his leadership, Metallurg Magnitogorsk had huge success. They won two Russian Superleague championships. They also won the 2000 IIHF Super Cup.

For the 2003-04 season, Belousov coached Avangard Omsk. He led them to their first-ever championship title. They won against his former team, Metallurg. A year later, his Avangard team also won the 2005 IIHF European Champions Cup.

Belousov returned to Metallurg Magnitogorsk from 2008 to 2010. His team played in the 2008 Victoria Cup against the New York Rangers. They also reached the 2009 Champions Hockey League Finals. However, they lost both games.

In October 2010, he went back to Traktor Chelyabinsk. He helped the team climb from the bottom of the league table. He led them all the way to the 2013 Gagarin Cup Final in 2013.

Valery Belousov passed away on April 16, 2015. He left behind a great legacy in ice hockey.
