Valier is a small village located in Franklin County, Illinois, in the United States. In 2020, about 554 people lived there.
History of Valier
Valier was started in the early 1900s. It was named after William Valier, who owned the land where the village was built.
The village was a stop along the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad line. However, it didn't grow much until a coal mine opened nearby in 1917. The mine helped the community expand.
The coal mine operated for many years, sometimes opening and sometimes closing. It finally closed for good in 1960.

Valier is located in the western part of Franklin County. Its exact location is 38°0′57″N 89°2′28″W / 38.01583°N 89.04111°W.
The village is about 9 miles (14 km) west of Benton. Benton is the main town and county seat of Franklin County.
In 2021, Valier covered a total area of about 1.13 square miles (2.93 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 1.12 square miles (2.91 square kilometers), is land. Only a small part, about 0.01 square miles (0.02 square kilometers), is water.
