The Valin River is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows south into the St. Lawrence River. You can find it on the north shore of the St. Lawrence.
The river runs through two towns: L'Ange-Gardien and Château-Richer. These towns are part of the La Côte-de-Beaupré Regional County Municipality. This area is in the Capitale-Nationale region of Quebec.
The lower part of the Valin River valley is easy to reach. Roads like avenue Royale (Route 360) and Route 138 follow the St. Lawrence River. The upper part of the valley is mountainous. You can only get there using small forest roads.
Forestry, which is cutting down trees for wood, is the main activity here. Farming is also important in the lower parts of the valley.
The Valin River usually freezes over in early December. It stays frozen until late March. It's generally safe to walk on the ice from mid-December to mid-March. The river's water level changes with the seasons. It also changes depending on how much rain falls. The biggest water flow, called the spring flood, happens in March or April.

Where Does the Valin River Start and End?
The Valin River starts high in the mountains. It begins where two small streams meet. This spot is in L'Ange-Gardien. It's behind the Côte-de-Beaupré area.
The river's source is about 3.8 kilometers (2.4 miles) west of where it ends. It is also about 6.1 kilometers (3.8 miles) northeast of a bend in the Montmorency River.
How the River Flows
The Valin River flows for about 5.0 kilometers (3.1 miles). It drops 186 meters (610 feet) from its start to its end.
Here's how its journey goes:
- For 1.8 kilometers (1.1 miles), it flows east. It winds through a forest between two mountains. Then it reaches a bend at the edge of the La Grande Côte area.
- Next, it flows southeast for 2.7 kilometers (1.7 miles). It drops 151 meters (495 feet) in this section. It starts in the forest and then moves into farmland. It goes under large Hydro-Québec power lines. It also passes north of a small village called Valin. This section ends at Route 138.
- Finally, it flows east for 0.5 kilometers (0.3 miles). This last part is in farmland. It then reaches its mouth.
