Discovering Valle Hermoso
Valle Hermoso is one of many small towns in the Punilla Valley. These towns are found along Route 38. They also follow an old railway line. This line used to run from the city of Córdoba north to La Rioja.
What Makes Valle Hermoso Special?
The town's main area has many shops and hotels. Valle Hermoso is about 1,000 m (3,300 ft) above sea level. This high location gives it a mild climate. Summers are not too hot, and winters are not too cold.
Tourism is very popular here. The busiest time is during the summer months. This is from December to February. During these months, the town's population can double!
Famous Old Hotels
Valle Hermoso is home to several large, historic hotels. Two well-known ones are El Peñón and El Castillo. Another very old hotel is Hotel Vaquerías. It is more than a century old. This hotel sits on a hillside. It has natural springs, a swimming area, and offers horseback riding.
Vaquerías: Nature and History
The name "Vaquerías" means "place of cattle." It was a natural funnel. Vaqueros (cowboys) used to guide cattle through this area. They would bring the cattle from grazing fields. This was for branding, birthing, or collecting them.
Today, Vaquerías is a special place. It is called La Reserva Natural de Vaquerías. This is a nature preserve. Its goal is to protect the area's natural environment. It also protects the animals and plants that live there. No new buildings or changes are allowed in this beautiful natural space.
