Valley City is a small, unincorporated community. It's located in the northeast part of Johnson County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. An unincorporated community means it's not a big city with its own government. Instead, it's a group of homes and buildings.

You can find Valley City near Missouri Route MM. It's about seven miles north of Knob Noster. The community sits above a small stream valley. This stream is about half a mile east of the Blackwater River.

A Look Back in Time

Valley City once had its own post office. This post office opened in 1887. It helped people send and receive mail. The post office stayed open for many years. It finally closed in 1903.

The community got its name because of where it is. It sits in a valley. A valley is a low area of land. It is often between hills or mountains. Before it was called Valley City, it had other names. Some of these names were Gallaher's Mill, Kirkpatrick Mill, Millford, and Grover.
