Valomilk is a yummy candy cup. It has a soft, creamy marshmallow inside. This marshmallow is covered in smooth milk chocolate. A company called Russell Sifers Candies makes Valomilk. They make it in Merriam, Kansas.

How Valomilk Began

Valomilk candies were first made in 1931. This happened at the Sifers candy company. Back then, the company was in Kansas City, Missouri. A candymaker made a mistake one day. He added too much vanilla extract to a batch of marshmallows.

The marshmallows did not get firm. Instead, they stayed soft and runny. The candymaker had a clever idea. He used this soft mixture as a filling. He put it inside small milk chocolate cups. These cups usually held peanut butter.

What Does "Valomilk" Mean?

The name "Valomilk" tells you about the candy. It comes from three main ingredients. "Va" is for vanilla. "Lo" is for marshmallow. "Milk" is for milk chocolate.

The Sifers family still makes Valomilk today. They are the fifth generation to run the company. They use the same old family recipe. They also use much of the original equipment. Valomilks are the only candy Sifers makes now. The company stopped making other candies in the 1950s.

Fun State Disk Promotion

In the late 1950s, Valomilk had a special promotion. This celebrated Alaska and Hawaii joining the United States. They became new states in the country.

Cardboard disks were placed on top of the candy cups. Each disk had the name of a capital city. These were the capitals of all 50 states in America. Kids could collect these disks. If you collected 30 disks, you could send them in. The Valomilk company would then send you a tube of 10 free Valomilks!
