About Valrhona
Valrhona is one of the top companies making fancy chocolate for chefs and people who love gourmet treats. They have offices and distributors in many countries around the world. This means their delicious chocolate can be found almost anywhere! The company has five smaller companies and 60 local sellers across the globe.
What Valrhona Makes
Valrhona focuses on making very high-quality chocolate. Their products include chocolate candies, plain and flavored chocolate bars, and large blocks or small pellets of chocolate. They even make "vintage" chocolate. This special chocolate comes from beans grown in one specific place during one single year. These unique beans, called Grand Crus, come from places like South America, Oceania, and the Caribbean.
Valrhona is also a "B Corp" certified company. This means they meet high standards for being good for people and the planet. They earned this certification in January 2020.
How Valrhona Makes Chocolate Smooth
When Valrhona makes chocolate, they grind it down to a super fine powder. This process is called refining. They grind the chocolate so finely, to about 14 or 15 micrometers. This makes their chocolate incredibly smooth and delicious!
Learning About Chocolate
Valrhona also runs a special school called the École du Grand Chocolat. This school is for professional chefs who want to learn how to make amazing chocolate-based dishes and pastries. In 2015, Valrhona opened another school, the École Valrhona Brooklyn, in Brooklyn, USA. There are also two Écoles Valrhona in France and one in Japan. These schools help chefs become experts in working with chocolate.
