History of Van Syckel
The Old Tavern and Farmhouse
The Van Syckel's Tavern is a very old building. It was built in 1763 by David Reynolds. Back then, it was called Reynolds Tavern. It stands at the corner of Van Syckels Corner and Norton Roads. The tavern was built with strong stone. It shows the Georgian architecture style, which was popular a long time ago.
In 1795, a man named Aaron Van Syckel bought the tavern. That's how the community got its name! Next to the tavern is the farmhouse of J. Van Syckel. This farmhouse was built in 1829. It has a different style called Greek Revival.
