Vanessa Echols was born in Auburn, Alabama. She went to Auburn High School. After high school, she studied broadcast journalism at the University of Alabama. This is where she learned the skills needed to become a journalist.
A Career in News
Vanessa Echols started her career in broadcasting at a radio station in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She then worked at television stations in Georgia and Tennessee. One of these stations was WMAZ-TV in Macon, Georgia.
In 1992, Vanessa joined WFTV in Orlando. She became an anchor for their morning news shows. These included Eyewitness News Daybreak and Eyewitness News at Noon. Later, in 2007, she also anchored a new morning show on WFTV's sister station, WRDQ.
Retirement from Television
Vanessa Echols had a long and successful career. She anchored her final newscast on May 25, 2022. This was the Eyewitness News at 6 show. She retired after many years of bringing news to the community.
Community Involvement
Vanessa Echols is also a breast cancer survivor. This means she bravely fought and recovered from breast cancer. She has used her experience to help others. She was an honorary chairman for the Susan G. Komen Central Florida Race for the Cure. This event raises money for breast cancer research. She also spoke at the University of Central Florida's 2006 Breast Cancer Update conference.
