Vanilla pompona is a special type of orchid plant. It's known as a "vanilla orchid." This plant grows naturally in Mexico and the northern parts of South America. It's one of the plants we get vanilla flavour from, because it has a lot of something called vanillin.
Scientists have studied Vanilla pompona plants found in the Amazon rainforest in Peru. They found that these plants have a lot of vanillin, up to 9.88 grams in every 100 grams of the plant. This makes Vanilla pompona a good choice for making vanilla flavouring for food or even for perfumes and other beauty products.
What Vanilla Pompona Looks Like
Just like all plants in the Vanilla group, V. pompona is a vine. This means it grows by climbing. It uses its thick, strong roots to hold onto other plants or structures as it grows taller. Its leaves and stems are usually thicker than those of other vanilla plants like V. planifolia and V. phaeantha.
