Vasily Ivanov was born in Samara, a city in Russia. He became a professional swimmer. He was known for his strong swimming style. He was especially good at short-distance races. These races are often held in smaller pools (25 meters long). His body type helped him with powerful starts and quick turns.
Major Achievements
Vasily Ivanov won several big awards during his swimming career:
- At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, he won a silver medal. This was for the 4×100 meter medley relay race.
- He also won a silver medal at the 1994 World Aquatics Championships. This was also for the 4×100 meter medley relay.
- He earned three gold medals at the European Short Course Swimming Championships. These wins were for the 50 meter breaststroke event. He won in 1991, 1992, and 1993.
