Today, Veetee offers many different kinds of rice. These include popular types like basmati and long grain. They also have special kinds like Goan, Camargue red, and rozana. Veetee is also known for its microwaveable rice, which is super easy to cook!
How Veetee Started
Veetee was started in 1987 by a person named Moni Varma. He began the company in Perivale, which is a part of London. Moni Varma got the idea for Veetee from his family. They had rice farms in India. A relative asked him to bring basmati rice to Britain. This gave him the idea to start his own rice business.
The company's first rice mill was in Perivale. A mill is a place where rice grains are processed. This mill had two large storage silos. These silos helped the company bring in unprocessed brown rice. This type of rice had lower taxes, which was good for the business.
Growing the Business
In 1990, Veetee moved its main operations to Rochester, Kent. Around this time, the company decided to build a factory in India. This was a smart move because a lot of rice is grown and harvested there. Having a factory close to where the rice grows helps with getting fresh rice.
In 2007, Veetee launched its microwaveable rice. At first, they called this product "Dine In." This product was very special because of its new way of being made. It even won an award called the Grocer New Product Award. This showed how innovative their cooking method was.
In 2011, Veetee was recognized as one of the fastest-growing companies in the UK. It was listed as the 8th fastest in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100. This list celebrates companies that are growing very quickly.
More recently, in July 2022, Veetee worked with another company called DS Smith. They teamed up to create a new type of rice packaging. This new pack can be sealed again after opening. Plus, it can be recycled, which is good for the environment!
