How Veetee Started
Veetee was started in 1987 by a person named Moni Varma. He began the company in Perivale, which is a part of London. Moni Varma got the idea for Veetee from his family's rice farms in India. A relative asked him to bring basmati rice to Britain. This inspired him to create his own rice business.
The company's first rice mill was in Perivale. It had two large storage containers called silos. These silos helped the company bring in unmilled brown rice. This type of rice had lower taxes, which was good for the business.
Growing the Business
In 1990, Veetee moved its main operations to Rochester, Kent. Around this time, the company decided to build a factory in India. This was a smart move because much of the rice they used was grown there. Having a factory closer to the farms helped them manage their supply better.
New Products and Awards
In 2007, Veetee introduced its line of microwaveable rice. At first, this product was called "Dine In." It was a big success and won an award called the Grocer New Product Award. This award recognized its new and clever way of being made.
