Vellore district is one of the 32 districts in the Tamil Nadu state of India. It is one of the biggest districts in Tamil Nadu. Vellore City is the main city and headquarters of this district. In 2011, about 3.9 million people lived here. The Government of India chose Vellore city to be part of a special "Smart City" project, along with 26 other cities. This project helps cities use technology to improve life for people.
