Vellore district is one of the 32 districts in the Tamil Nadu state of India. It is one of the biggest districts in Tamil Nadu. Vellore City is the main city and headquarters of this district. In 2011, about 3.9 million people lived here. The Government of India chose Vellore city to be part of a special "Smart City" project, along with 26 other cities. This project helps cities use technology to improve life for people.

Vellore Fort: A Historic Landmark
The Vellore Fort is the most famous place to visit in Vellore. It's a very old fort that has seen many important events.
- During the time when the British ruled India, some important people were kept as prisoners here. This included the family of Tipu Sultan and the last king of Sri Lanka, Vikrama Rajasinha.
- Inside the fort, you can find a church, a mosque, and a Hindu temple. The Hindu temple is especially famous for its beautiful carvings.
