• The community of Ellis Prairie is about 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) to the west along Route AA.
• The old Venable School used to be about three-quarters of a mile (1.2 kilometers) to the north-northeast.
• Venable is also about six miles (9.7 kilometers) north-northwest of Houston, a larger town nearby.
• The Big Piney River flows about two miles (3.2 kilometers) to the east of Venable.

• A post office was opened in Venable in the year 1891.
