Venecia is a town and a municipality in the southwest part of the Antioquia Department in Colombia. A municipality is like a local government area or a district. In 2018, about 10,280 people lived there.
The town is home to two interesting mountains. One is called Cerro Tusa, which looks like a pyramid. The other mountain is known as Cerro Bravo. Venecia got its name from Venice, Italy. This is because the area used to have a large lagoon, which is a shallow body of water.
History of Venecia
The first settlement that grew into the town of Venecia was started on January 13, 1898. Later, in 1909, Venecia became its own official municipality. This meant it had its own local government.
