Veno Pilon (born September 22, 1896 – died September 23, 1970) was a talented Slovene artist. He was known as an expressionist painter, a graphic artist, and a photographer.
A Look at Veno Pilon's Life
Veno Pilon was born in a town called Ajdovščina. At that time, Ajdovščina was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. This area is now in Slovenia. After finishing school, he joined the Austro-Hungarian Army. This was during World War I.
He fought on the Eastern Front of the war. He was captured by the Russian army and became a prisoner of war. Pilon later wrote about his experiences in a book called Na robu, which means "On the Edge." He returned home to Ajdovščina in 1919. That's when he started painting.
In the late 1920s, Pilon moved to Paris, France. There, he began to focus on photography. He died in Ajdovščina.
