About Vermont Creamery
Vermont Creamery makes many different dairy products. These products are made from both cows' milk and goats' milk. They create fresh and aged cheeses, along with other creamy treats.
What They Make
From cows' milk, Vermont Creamery makes special products like crème fraîche, which is a rich, creamy dairy product. They also make crème fraîche with vanilla and a special kind of cultured butter. Their fresh cow cheeses include fromage blanc, mascarpone, and quark.
From goats' milk, they make several aged cheeses such as Bijou, Bonne Bouche, Coupole, and Cremont. They also produce fresh goat cheeses like creamy goat cheese, feta, fresh crottin, and fresh goat cheese crumbles.
Where Their Milk Comes From
The cows' milk used by Vermont Creamery comes from the St. Albans Cooperative Creamery in St. Albans, Vermont. The goats' milk comes from about 20 different farms in Vermont. They also get goats' milk from Hewitt's Dairy in Hagersville, Ontario, Canada.
In 2012, Vermont Creamery started a project called Ayers Brook Goat Dairy. Their goal was to create the first goat dairy demonstration farm in the United States. This farm would show others how to raise goats for milk.
How It Started and Grew
The company first began in a small barn at Allison Hooper's house in Brookfield, Vermont. As they grew, they needed more space. So, in 1989, they moved to a larger place in Websterville. By 2014, Vermont Creamery had grown quite a bit and employed around 45 people.
Vermont Creamery was the first company to bring the French fromage blanc to the United States. This cheese is one of their most famous products. Another well-known product is the Bonne Bouche, which is a goats' cheese dusted with ash.
On March 29, 2017, Allison Hooper announced that Vermont Creamery was being sold to Land O'Lakes.
