Vernon is a small community in Apache County, Arizona, United States. It is also called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that the government counts for population, but it's not officially a town or city.
In 2020, about 126 people lived in Vernon. It is located about 19 miles (30 km) east of Show Low. Vernon has its own post office with a special code, 85940.
History of Vernon
Vernon was first settled in 1894. A person named B.H. Wilhelm Jr. gave the community its name. He named it after William Tecumseh Vernon.
At first, Vernon was an important place for a sawmill. A sawmill is a factory where logs are cut into lumber. But as the sawmill business slowed down, many people moved away from Vernon.
The community was once a local group for Mormon members. However, this group closed down in 1954. This happened when the sawmill business finally moved closer to Lakeside.

Vernon has not grown much in recent years. Its population has stayed quite small. Some ranches in the area have been active for a very long time, since the 1870s.
