History of Vernon
Vernon became an official town in 1833. At some point later, it stopped being an official town.
A post office served the community of Vernon for many years. It was open from 1828 until 1887.
During the American Civil War, a group of soldiers was formed in Vernon. This group was called Company I of the 18th Mississippi Infantry Regiment. They were organized in 1861.
