Verona is a small place in Alameda County, California. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government.
Verona is located near the Western Pacific and Southern Pacific Railroad tracks. It's about 2.25 miles (3.6 km) north of a town called Sunol. The land in Verona is about 315 feet (96 meters) above sea level.
How Verona Got Its Name
Verona got its name from a large estate located nearby. This estate was called La Hacienda del Pozo de Verona. It belonged to a famous person named Phoebe Hearst. The train station in Verona was the closest one to this big estate.
The Old Verona Shelter
A small building called the Verona shelter was built in 1901. This shelter was used by local farmers in the area. There was also a picnic spot nearby for people to enjoy. The shelter stopped being used in March 1939.
