Versailles (pronounced vər-ˈseɪlz) is a small town in Ripley County, Indiana, in the United States. It is the main town, or county seat, of Ripley County. In 2020, about 2,184 people lived here.

History of Versailles
Founding the Town
Leaders decided in 1818 that Versailles would be the county seat. The town itself was officially created in 1819. It was named after the famous Palace of Versailles in France. A post office has been open in Versailles since 1823.

Laughery Creek and Versailles Lake
Laughery Creek is a major stream that flows through the area. In 1954, a dam was built on this creek. This created the 230-acre Versailles Lake. This lake is part of the beautiful Versailles State Park, a great place for outdoor activities.
