Vicente da Silva Guterres was born on January 22, 1956, in Baguia, which was then called Portuguese Timor. He is a well-known politician from East Timor. He has been a member of the National Parliament of East Timor and served as its vice-president starting in 2007.

Political Career in East Timor
Vicente da Silva Guterres has held important roles in the government of East Timor. He has been a leader in the country's parliament. His work has focused on helping East Timor grow and improve.
Joining the National Parliament
In June 2007, there was an election for the parliament in East Timor. Vicente Guterres was chosen to be a member of the National Parliament of East Timor. He was listed second on the candidate list for the National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction (CNRT) party. This party was led by Xanana Gusmão, a very important figure in East Timor's history.
Leading the Parliament
Later, in July 2012, Vicente Guterres was chosen to be the president of the National Parliament. Everyone agreed on this choice, and he took on this big responsibility. He served in this role until May 2016.
Serving as Acting President
Vicente Guterres also briefly served as the acting president of East Timor. This happened during a difficult time for the country.
Taking on the Presidential Role
On February 11, 2008, the then-President, José Ramos-Horta, was injured. Because of this, Vicente Guterres stepped in as the acting president. He held this position for a short time.
Actions as Acting President
While he was acting president, Vicente Guterres declared a two-day state of emergency. This was done on February 12, 2008, to help keep the country stable. After a couple of days, Fernando de Araújo, who was the president of the National Parliament at that time, took over as acting president. During his time in office, Guterres emphasized the need to fight poverty. He wanted to improve the living standards for people in East Timor.
