Vicky Moscholiou (born Vasiliki Moscholiou on May 23, 1943 – died August 16, 2005) was a famous Greek singer. She was born in Athens, Greece. Many people remember her as one of the best female singers in Greece since the 1960s.

Vicky Moscholiou's Life Story

Her Early Life

Vicky Moscholiou was born during a difficult time in Greece. This was when Germany occupied Greece during World War II. Her family was very poor and lived in just one room.

Her father worked at the vegetable market. Her mother was often sick. They worked hard to save money. Eventually, they bought some land in Agia Varvara and built a home. Vicky later had a younger brother and sister.

Vicky remembered her childhood neighborhood. It had few houses and many open fields. She played barefoot all day with other children. Even with little money, people were kind and cared for each other.

Her grandparents worked at the National Theatre of Greece. Her grandfather handled the lights, and her grandmother made costumes. Vicky often went with her grandfather to watch the shows. She dreamed of becoming an actress, but she became a singer instead.

How She Started Singing

Vicky got her first big chance in 1962. Her cousin Effie Linda helped her. Effie asked the famous singer Grigoris Bithikotsis to listen to Vicky sing. He was rehearsing for a show at a club called Triana.

They set up a time for Vicky to audition. Bithikotsis was running late that day. He almost missed her! He saw Vicky and her mother leaving the club. Vicky recognized him and reminded him about the audition.

Bithikotsis decided to listen to her. The other musicians thought she sang out of tune. But Bithikotsis heard something special in her voice. He said her voice was "different."

Thanks to Bithikotsis, Vicky was hired to sing at the Triana club. It was a small start. She sang a few songs sometimes. She learned a lot from working with Bithikotsis and another singer named Doukissa.

Her Successful Career

Vicky became very famous in 1964. This happened with the song "Hathike to feggari" (The Moon is Lost). Stavros Xarhakos wrote this song for a movie called Lola.

There are different stories about how she got this song. Some say Bithikotsis suggested Vicky to Xarhakos. Others say the record company wanted Vicky to sing it. No matter how it happened, the song was a huge hit!

Vicky worked with many other famous Greek composers. These included Giorgos Zambetas, Manos Eleutheriou, and Giorgos Katsaros. She sang many popular songs like "Paei, paei" and "Ta deilina."

Two of her hit songs even gave their names to nightclubs in Athens. These clubs were called "Deilina" (Dusks) and "Ximeromata" (Daybreaks). Vicky was one of the first Greek singers to perform in both nightclubs and concerts.

She also sang for royal families in Greece, Persia (now Iran), and Jordan. Vicky was also one of the first entertainers to sing to help the people of Cyprus.

Her Family Life

In 1967, Vicky Moscholiou married Mimis Domazos. He was a very famous soccer player. They later divorced. Vicky and Mimis had two daughters together, named Evangelia and Rania.

Vicky Moscholiou passed away in Athens in 2005. She had been battling cancer for two years. She left behind many amazing songs and a great legacy in Greek music.
