Victor Roache, born on September 17, 1991, is a former American professional baseball player. He played as an outfielder. The Milwaukee Brewers picked him in the first round of the 2012 Major League Baseball draft. This was a big deal, as he was the 28th player chosen overall. Even though he was drafted so high, he spent six seasons playing in Minor League Baseball and never made it to the major leagues.
Victor Roache's Early Life and Baseball Start
Victor Roache was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He loved baseball from a young age. He even took part in a program called Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities. This program helps kids in cities play baseball.
High School and College Baseball Journey
Victor went to Lincoln High School in Ypsilanti. After high school, the Detroit Tigers drafted him in 2009. But Victor decided not to sign with them. Instead, he chose to play college baseball. He joined the Georgia Southern Eagles baseball team.
In 2011, Victor had an amazing season. He hit 30 home runs! This was a huge jump from the 8 home runs he hit the year before. It was the biggest increase in home runs in all of college baseball that year. This was even more impressive because new bats were being used, which usually made it harder to hit home runs.
Because of his great performance, he was named to the Baseball America's College All-America Team. After the 2011 season, he played summer baseball for the Cotuit Kettleers. He was chosen as an all-star in that league. He also won an award for being a top player who could become a professional.
An Unlucky Injury Before the Draft
In December 2011, experts thought Victor would be a top player. They named him to the preseason All-America First Team. But on February 25, 2012, Victor broke his left wrist. He got hurt while trying to make a diving catch in the outfield. This injury meant he missed the rest of the 2012 season. Before his injury, he was hitting very well, with a batting average of .412. He also had 5 RBIs and two home runs.
Victor Roache's Professional Baseball Career
Even with his injury, Victor was still a top prospect. The Milwaukee Brewers picked him in the first round of the 2012 Major League Baseball draft. He was the 28th player chosen overall.
