Victor John Surridge (born 1892 in Chipping Ongar, Essex, UK – died June 27, 1911 in Glen Helen, Isle of Man) was a young English motorcycle racer. He rode for the Rudge team, a well-known motorcycle company.

Victor Surridge sadly passed away while practicing for the 1911 Isle of Man TT Races. This was the first time the Rudge factory team had competed in these famous races. His accident happened on the new Isle of Man TT Mountain Course, which was also being used for the first time in 1911.

A Young Racer's Story

From October 1910, Victor Surridge worked as a representative for Rudge motorcycles. He was a talented rider, holding an hour-long motorcycle record at Brooklands and also the fastest lap time there. This showed he was a very quick and skilled racer.

The Tragic Accident

Victor Surridge's accident happened at a sharp left-hand turn called Glen Helen. He was trying to pass another racer when his motorcycle went too wide. It went into a ditch and hit a bank of earth.

An investigation found that Victor Surridge likely died instantly. This sad event marked the first time a competitor had died on the Isle of Man TT Mountain Course. It was also the first death from a vehicle accident on the Isle of Man itself.
