Victoria Police started a long time ago, in the 1850s. One of their first jobs was to collect money from miners. These miners were looking for gold. In 1854, some miners in Ballarat did not want to pay. They built a fort called the Eureka Stockade. British soldiers and 94 policemen attacked the fort. About 30 miners and four soldiers died in this event.
