View is a small place in Taylor County, Texas, United States. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government.
View is found where U.S. Highway 277 and FM 1235 meet. It is about thirteen miles southwest of a bigger city called Abilene. View is also part of the larger Abilene area, which is a region where many towns and cities are connected.
History of View, Texas
View started because of a company called the Western Development Company. This company, led by a lawyer named Royston Campbell Crane, Sr., bought and sold land. They were hoping to develop new areas.
How View Got Started
The area where View is now began to grow when a railroad line came through. This was the Coleman Cutoff of the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad. It was important because it bypassed the city of Abilene, bringing development to new places like View.
Originally, this community was called Caps Sides. But on August 2, 1910, it became an official town site. It was renamed View because it sits on a hill. From this hill, you can see the pretty farmland below. By 1914, about 40 people lived in View.
Schools in View
In 1935, a school called Butterfield was built. It was a joint school for students from View and a nearby community called Caps. This school later joined with the Wylie Independent School District in 1978. The Butterfield school stayed open until the end of the 2005–2006 school year.
Population Over Time
View has always been a small community. In 1988, about 71 people lived there. By 1990, the population had grown slightly to 75. This number stayed the same in the year 2000.
