Vilajuïga is a small town, also known as a municipality, located in the beautiful region of Catalonia, Spain. It is part of an area called Alt Empordà in the Province of Girona.
History of Vilajuïga
Vilajuïga has a very long history. In its area, you can find ancient stone structures called Megalithic dolmens. These were built by people thousands of years ago.
Later, starting around the 10th century AD, Vilajuïga became part of the lands owned by the Sant Pere de Rodes monastery. This was an important religious building nearby.
You can also find the Quermançó Castle close to Vilajuïga. This castle has been mentioned in historical records since the year 1073.
Famous Mineral Water
Vilajuïga is well-known for its special mineral water, called Aigua de Vilajuïga. This water comes from natural springs in the area.
It is said that the famous surrealist painter, Salvador Dalí, only drank this water. He was a very unique artist from Catalonia.
