Who Are Vili and Vé?
In the old language of the Norse people, "Vili" means "will" or "desire." "Vé" refers to a special place for worship, like a shrine. These names give us clues about their roles.
Vé, the God of the Seas
Vé was known as the god of the seas. He once challenged his brother Odin for the throne of Asgard. Odin won this fight. As a result, Vé was sent to a dark realm as a consequence.
Vili, the Loyal Brother
Vili, on the other hand, was always loyal to Odin. Odin wore shining gold armor. His brother Vili wore silver armor, and Vé wore bronze. When Vé was sent away, his armor was taken from him.
Their Role in Ragnarök
Later, when Ragnarök began, Vé got his armor, sword, and powers back. He joined Odin and Vili in a big battle. Their mission was to fight the giant wolf Fenrir. During the battle, Fenrir swallowed Odin. Vili believed all hope was lost and sacrificed himself to Fenrir. Vé tried to escape, but Fenrir found him and also ate him.
