Exploring Villa Corona's Past
Early Settlements and First Names
Long ago, around the year 1160, several families started a journey from a place called Aztlán. They split into two big groups. One group traveled north into what is now Jalisco. The other group headed towards the Pacific Ocean.
The group that came to Jalisco arrived in the area of Villa Corona around 1250. Some of these travelers loved hunting and fishing. They decided to stay in this beautiful spot. The people already living there welcomed them. This was because the new arrivals were peaceful and friendly.
During this time, the area likely got its first name: Tizapanito. It was first called Tizapantzinco. This name means "place on the white land."
How Villa Corona Became a Municipality
Over many years, the area grew and changed. In September 1871, a special rule was made. It said that Tizapanito, which was a police station, would leave the municipality of Ameca. Instead, it would join the town of Cocula.
Then, on May 31, 1918, another important rule was passed. This rule created the municipality of Villa Corona. It was officially announced on June 5. Agapito Aguayo was chosen as the very first mayor of this new municipality. A mayor is a leader who helps run a town or city.
