Village Creek (Tarrant County) Texas facts for kids
Village Creek is a stream in Tarrant and Johnson counties, Texas, USA. It's like a smaller river that flows into a bigger one. Village Creek is a tributary of the West Fork of the Trinity River. It's also the main source of water for Lake Arlington.
This creek is about 23 miles (37 km) long. The area of land that drains water into Village Creek, called its watershed, is about 143 square miles (370 km²).
History of Village Creek
A notable event happened near Village Creek on May 24, 1841. This event is known as the "Battle of Village Creek". During this time, a group of about seventy men, including some Texas Rangers, led by Edward H. Tarrant, attacked three Native American camps along the creek.
A monument was built in 1936 in the nearby town of Handley to remember this historical event.
Where Village Creek Flows
Village Creek starts in northern Johnson County, near Burleson. It generally flows north.
As it moves, other smaller streams join it. Shannon Creek joins from the west in Chisenhall Park, and then Village Creek turns northeast. Booger Creek also flows into it from the west. Quil Miller Creek joins near the line between Johnson and Tarrant counties.
The creek continues north and is joined by Deer Creek from the west. It then flows through Timberview Park and Kennedale. Finally, it enters Lake Arlington from the south, just north of I-20 in Fort Worth.
The last part of Village Creek flows north from Lake Arlington through the Village Creek Historical Area (which is also a park). This area is where the historical battle took place. After flowing along NW Green Oaks Road, Village Creek meets the West Fork of the Trinity River.
