Villarejo de Fuentes is a small town in the province of Cuenca, which is part of the Castile-La Mancha region in Spain. In 2015, about 519 people lived there. It's a quiet place with a rich history.

A Look Back in Time
Long ago, Villarejo de Fuentes was first called Fuentes. It was built close to the Záncara River. However, the first settlement was later left empty because of a widespread illness.
During a time known as the Modern Era, the town became part of the Marquesado de Villena. This made Villarejo de Fuentes one of the most important villages in the entire province.

In 1960, Villarejo de Fuentes had more than 2,200 residents. But since then, the number of people living in the village has gone down. This is similar to other nearby areas.
Many people moved to bigger Spanish cities and regions. Popular places they moved to include Madrid, Valencia, and Catalonia. Today, fewer than 500 people live in Villarejo de Fuentes all year round.

What's the Climate Like?
Villarejo de Fuentes has a Mediterranean climate, but with some features of a continental climate. This means it has mild to cold winters. Because the town is quite high up (862 meters or 2,828 feet above sea level), it sometimes snows. Temperatures can even drop below freezing.
Summers in Villarejo de Fuentes are warm or even hot. Most of the rain falls during the autumn and spring months.

How People Make a Living
The main way people in Villarejo de Fuentes used to earn money was through farming. They grew crops like wheat, olives, and sunflowers. Raising sheep was also a big part of the economy.
Today, there is a special cheese factory in the village. This factory has won many awards for its delicious cheese! Some of its awards include the World Cheese Awards (in 2007 and 2008), the Chincho de Oro (in 2008), and the Concorso per i migliori formaggi (in 2012 and 2015).

- Cristo de los Pastores: This festival happens in May or June, about fifty days after Easter Sunday.
