Villarroya is a very small village and a municipality in La Rioja, a region in northern Spain. It is known for being one of the places with the fewest people living there in Spain. The municipality covers an area of about 11.77 square kilometers.
Location and Geography
Villarroya is located in the autonomous community of La Rioja. This region is in the northern part of Spain. The village is part of the Arnedo comarca, which is like a local district.
The village sits at an elevation of 928 meters above sea level. This means it is quite high up in the mountains. The landscape around Villarroya is typical of the mountainous areas of La Rioja.
Population and Community
Villarroya is famous for its very small population. As of 2018, only five people lived there. This makes it one of the least populated municipalities in all of Spain. In 2011, the population was slightly higher, with nine people.
Despite its small size, Villarroya is still a functioning municipality. The people who live there are called villarroyano (for males) or villarroyana (for females).
Local Government
