Vilhelmina "Vilma" Bardauskienė (born on June 15, 1953) is a famous former long jumper from Lithuania. She competed for the Soviet Union in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Vilma made history by setting two new world records in the women's long jump. She also won the European title in 1978 in Prague. She was born in Pakruojis.

Vilma Bardauskienė was the first female athlete to jump over 7 meters in the long jump. Her first record jump was 7.07 meters. Just eleven days later, she broke her own record! She jumped 7.09 meters at the European Championships in Prague.

Early Life and Training

Vilma started competing in long jumping when she was 14 years old. She was trained by two coaches, Y.Y. Goodvich and Igor Ter-Ovanesyan. They helped her become a top athlete.

Taking a Break

Vilma took a break from competing between 1974 and 1976. She returned to the sport later.

World Recognition

In 1987, the IAAF recognized Vilma's amazing talent. They named her among the top 10 best long jumpers in the world's history. She was ranked fifth!
