Øyvind Sauvik (born on February 3, 1976), known by his stage name Vinni, is a famous Norwegian rapper and singer. He is well-known for his solo music and for being part of the hip hop group Paperboys.

About Vinni

Vinni was born in Arendal, Norway. When he was three years old, he moved with his parents to Tanzania in Africa. His parents worked there with a group called NORAD, which helps with development. Vinni grew up in Africa and learned to speak Swahili, a language spoken there.

Starting with Paperboys

After returning to Norway, Vinni started a hip hop group called Paperboys. He first formed the group with Jarle "J.J." Hollerud. Later, DJ Ole Alexander "Pope Dawg" Halstensgård joined the group. In Paperboys, Øyvind Sauvik was often called Vincent Vagabond or simply Vinni. The group released many popular albums together.

TV Shows and Competitions

In 2009, Vinni joined a TV show called Det store korslaget on the Norwegian channel TV 2. This show was a competition where different choirs performed. Vinni led a choir from Kolbotn. His choir finished in 5th place out of seven groups.

That same year, he also took part in Zebra Grand Prix. This was a car racing show for celebrities on TV2 Zebra. Vinni teamed up with Vibeke Klemetsen. They made it past the first round but were eliminated in the semi-finals.

Vinni and the Vagabonds

In 2010, Vinni began a solo music career with his own band, Vinni and the Vagabonds. They released an album called Happily Lost. This allowed him to explore his own musical style.

Hver gang vi møtes Success

Vinni also appeared on another popular TV show called Hver gang vi møtes on TV 2. On this show, famous singers perform songs originally sung by other participants. Vinni performed many songs, including:

  • "Sommerfuggel i vinterland" (from Halvdan Sivertsen)
  • "Apples & Diamonds" (from Bertine Zetlitz)
  • "Kor é alle helter hen?" (from Jan Eggum)
  • "Millimeter" (from Anne Grete Preus)
  • "Nothing to Lose" (from Elvira Nikolaisen)
  • "God morgen Norge" (from Øystein Dolmen)

When it was Vinni's turn, other singers performed his songs. For example, Elvira Nikolaisen sang "Barcelona" and Jan Eggum sang "Tomorrow".

EMI released an album of these performances called Venner. Vinni's version of "Sommerfuggel i vinterland" became very popular.

In 2012, "Sommerfuggel i Vinterland" became a huge hit. It was number one on the VG-lista, which is Norway's official music chart, for five weeks in a row! After that, another one of his songs from the show, "Godmorgen Norge", also reached number one and stayed there for two more weeks. This meant Vinni had the top song in Norway for seven weeks straight in 2012.

Because of this big success, Vinni released a third song called "Halve meg". It quickly entered the Norwegian charts at number 4.
